Mission
Our mission is to help women and men diagnosed with breast cancer navigate the confusing and frightening journey toward regaining their physical and emotional wellbeing.
History
Baskets of Care, Inc. was founded by breast cancer survivor Gail Cooper. During her personal battle against breast cancer in 2009, Gail was disappointed at the lack of support available at time of diagnosis, including inadequate information and emotional support provided to patients. She recognized a need for patients to have a better experience in the future. As a result, she became committed to using her professional skills to inform, support, and advocate on behalf of others affected by this disease. Her goal was to make sure that men and women who were diagnosed with breast cancer were given all the information and support they needed right at the time of diagnosis. To that end, she developed the concept of the comfort care bag and created Baskets of Care in 2010.
With over thirty years of business experience, Gail is a mother, grandmother, and an active contributor to her community. Throughout her years as a volunteer fundraiser, she has served on several non-profit boards, including the Maumee Valley Girl Scouts Council, Jewish Family Services, the Jewish Community Center, Planned Parenthood of Central Ohio, and the National Council of Jewish Women, and acted as a Court Appointed Special Advocate for neglected and abused children. A trained fundraiser, Gail has been instrumental in helping to raise money for WGTE Public Media, Metro parks of the Toledo Area, and Sylvania Schools. Thanks to her tireless efforts, Baskets of Care has been embraced by area hospitals, physicians, surgeons, social workers, and countless volunteers.
